How to Modify Your Car

Cars come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but stock car designs can be boring and uninspired. Vehicle owners can choose from thousands of aftermarket modifications with varying installation complexity to increase their car’s sportiness.

Tail fins are vertical additions that are typically located on a car’s rear end. A matching pair of fins is common, or a single tall fin can be centered on the trunk like a shark’s fin. Tail fins reached the height of their popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, but the stylistic element has been making a small resurgence in recent years.

Paint is one of the most common upgrades for a vehicle’s exterior. It is relatively cheap compared to other modifications, can be applied by amateurs, and does not require any specialized tools. Most contemporary car paints can be sprayed on with only a spray gun and compressor.

Retro paints can include candy, metal flake, or pearl. Pearl paint gives off slightly different colors depending upon a person’s point of view, and candy paint has a metallic base layer. Although retro paints provide a distinctive look, they can be more difficult to apply than modern paints and require expensive repairs.

Car owners can also apply a custom paint job on their vehicles. Animals, characters from popular media, and flames or fire outlines have been in and out of vogue among car painters. Designs featuring pinstripes are common on motorcycles, but some custom car designers have appropriated the technique for their creations.

A spoiler is a horizontal wing bolted onto the trunk. Spoilers may have short support posts, or some spoilers are six inches or more off of the trunk lid. Luxury models and race cars may have functional spoilers, but the majority of aftermarket kits are only designed for visual effect.

Tints can give a dark blue, purple, or black shade to car windows. The colors improve visibility on sunny days by preventing glare from blinding the driver. Light tints are generally legal everywhere, but dark and opaque tints are illegal in some jurisdictions.

However, young persons car insurance may be significantly affected by certain types of modifications. For example, some types of racing equipment can increase the base insurance rate if an insurer is aware of the upgrades. Insurers’ rates may vary, but drivers should be able to find competitive young persons car insurance rates if they shop around between multiple companies.
