Around one thirds of the households that own more than one car, are paying 60% on the odds, as disclosed by latest figures. Three out of every ten households in UK have more than one car, yet people availing multiple car cover and think that they are saving their money, may be paying extra to the insurance company. They can cut the cost by taking separate covers for various vehicles at their place than taking multiple car insurance.
Number of households with multiple cars has been increasing by the day in last 30 years. In the year 2008, only 32% of households had access two or more cars as compared to 15% and 23% in 1980 and 1990 respectively. Households situated in rural areas are more likely to access two or more cars in the year 2008, figures was at around 47& as compared to 17% in the London Boroughs.
Research undertaken by the company Swiftcovr.com, compared prices of, including two popular cars in the multi vehicle policy, with cost of insuring them separately. The company found out that drivers who have taken multiple car insurance are paying double the money paid by drivers who have taken out separate policies. Marketing director at Swinton explains, people believe that covering two or more vehicle under one policy by default give them the best deal but this research reveals that it is not the case all the time.
