Warning to car insurance customers over level crossings

Police have warned UK motor insurance policyholders of the dangers in misusing level crossings, following a spate of incidents across Lancashire.
PC Ric Herbert, from British Transport Police, told the Lancashire Evening Post that unmanned railway crossings at Club Lane in Croston, Paiges Lane in Leyland and Canal Bridge in Rufford had all been brought to his attention.
“It appears that people are taking huge gambles at these crossings by ignoring the warning signs and trying to hurry across without paying full attention to the railway,” he told the newspaper.
The officer also said that there had been reports of car insurance customers not properly fastening the gates at crossings, potentially making it easier for children to gain access to the deadly railway lines.
Earlier this week, police officers in Dorset revealed that more than 1,000 motor insurance policyholders had been caught not wearing their seatbelts while driving, in a recent crackdown operation.
