Trying to compare caravan insurance quotes isn’t always easy. Here are a few tips that may help:

  • costs – yes, the price (premium) of your caravan insurance is important but try to keep it in perspective against what the policy is offering, as a lowest-cost policy may not, in reality, offer you the cover you need;
  • contents – different caravan insurance quotes may offer a very different approach to contents cover, for example, some may offer market-valuation replacement whereas others may provide full new-for-old protection;
  • externals – policies may or may not cover things such as awnings and satellite dishes;
  • sites – policies may have very different views as to what facilities your site must offer before they may consider your caravan to be under cover on it (e.g. permanent supervision, to be outside of known flood risk areas etc);
  • discounts – some caravan insurance providers may offer a range of opportunities to reduce your overall premium through the application of various discounts for things such as owners’ club membership, additional security devices fitted and so on;
  • terms and conditions – an unavoidable part of insurance policies, these are important and they may, amongst other things, define your responsibilities as part of the insurance contract and some may be better suited to your view of the world than others;
  • the excess – this is a sum of money that the insurers will typically expect you to pay towards any claims that arise (it is sometimes referred to as ‘the first part’ of a claim) and the sums may differ between policies.
