Finding park home caravan insurance cover

Making sure that your home is adequately insured is a high priority for many and park home caravan insurance is no exception. Cover for your park home is just as important as insurance cover for a flat, a bungalow, a modern semi or a Georgian mansion.
The same basic principles typically apply.
Buildings and contents cover
Buildings cover for a typical park home will generally provide cover for the standard perils like;
- fire;
- storm and lightning;
- earthquake;
- smoke damage;
- subsidence;
- etc.
Getting the level of cover correct is important, as any park home caravan insurance will only pay out up to the value insured.
Should the worst happen, the sum insured should ideally be enough to cover all the cost of the rebuild of you park home including other related costs like architects fees, site clearance and council searches and fees etc.
Since your park home is your primary residence, fixtures, contents and other personal possessions may be of a higher value than for other types of caravan.
New for old cover for contents may therefore be something that you feel strongly about and if this can include cover for the contents of your freezer so much the better.
Of course, if your park home is rendered uninhabitable by an insured peril then having insurance which can provide for alternative accommodation may make very good sense.
Site owners
One of the features that may make park home insurance different from the insurance required for a more traditional type of building is that your home and those of your neighbours, are located on a site which is owned by someone else.
You have your responsibilities and the site owner has theirs and many site owners may require you to cover yourself with a certain level of public liability insurance.
In the event of a problem though, it may be reassuring to know that your park home caravan insurance may typically cover your legal expenses in the event that you get involved in a dispute with your site owner (though check the policy wording to make sure this is the case as not all policies may offer this element of cover).
