Getting a caravan quote

Getting a typical caravan quote is not hard. However, structuring your thoughts so you get one that is relevant to you may be beneficial.
Your type of caravan and risks
Caravan insurance is typically organised on a type of caravan basis. That’s unlikely to cause most owners any confusion, as typically you’ll know if you have a tourer or static etc.
Perhaps one area of possible ambiguity arises from static caravans and park homes.
The difference is typically that a static is a caravan used occasionally for holiday purposes whereas a park home is a permanent dwelling on a local authority approved park home site.
The risks are also generally clear. Natural causes, human intervention (e.g. burglary) and third-party liability claims, are the risk areas faced by typical caravan owners. To that must be added road risks where motorhomes, trailer tents and tourers are concerned.
Points to look for
Like all insurance, a caravan quote will lay out terms and conditions, which will typically contain both exclusions as well as opportunities for you to perhaps save a little money.
Amongst these you may find that:
- fitting additional security features might be rewarded by lower premiums;
- depending upon your type of caravan, your choice of site may also influence your premium (e.g. avoiding sites with a known history of flooding);
- if you have a motorhome or tourer, avoiding inexperienced and younger drivers will typically help keep costs down (in fact, some policies may have minimum age levels);
- some policies may provide alternative emergency accommodation if your caravan is damaged and made uninhabitable;
- policies may have significantly different views of external items such as awnings and satellite dishes etc – checking these is typically important.
Your caravan is very likely to constitute a major financial investment. Taking your time with the caravan insurance quote may help you find a suitable way of protecting that investment
