Which caravan insurance to choose?

Deciding which caravan insurance to choose isn’t always easy.
Sometimes the price may be the thing that catches our eye or perhaps it’s the fact that there are discounts available etc.
In reality, your caravan insurance may be the thing that makes the difference between a problem being a financial disaster or a minor inconvenience – so taking your time to decide which caravan insurance to purchase, might be advisable.
What are the issues to be considered?
Typically:
- how you’re using your caravan (overseas trips, the amount of annual mileage, where you park or store it when out of season etc);
- what sort of cover you want (do you want new-for-old replacement of contents or would you be happy with the typically cheaper market value replacements);
- who is using your caravan in terms of driving or towing it as policies may differ in terms of how they see young drivers and in the case of motorhomes, there may be a minimum limit of 25 years; etc
Of course, that isn’t a complete list and you may have noticed an obvious omission – the price you’re willing to pay.
The omission is intentional because thinking right at the outset about the price may bring risks with it.
The difficulties may arise because insurance ideally needs to cover your style of recreation and leisure in terms of your caravan use. Not all policies are the same in terms of the cover they provide so looking for the cheapest may mean you end up with cover that is not entirely suitable.
So, which caravan insurance to choose may never be an easy decision but you may reduce the risks of getting it wrong by focussing on your needs and use rather than just the cost.
