Why bother to compare caravan insurance?

There may be a lot to be said for ‘better the devil you know’. If that’s applied to caravans and their insurance, what’s the point in trying to compare caravan insurance if you’re happy with the cover you already have?

It’s a fair question! The answer is all about change.

The caravan insurance marketplace, just like many others, constantly changes. Your existing cover may have been excellent when you first took it out and it may well still be, however, you’re unlikely to be able to know that for sure unless you periodically decide to test it against what else is available.

For example, you may wish to compare caravan insurance options in the market against your own in areas such as:

  • pricing;
  • the nature of the caravan cover provided – e.g. how do policies compare in their treatment of externally-stored items such as satellite dishes and awnings etc;
  • the way you use your caravan is your existing policy still as good a match as it once was;
  • the opportunities for discounts – policies may be available that offer you improved scope for reducing your premium by taking certain steps such as fitting alarms.

This list isn’t, of course, comprehensive – there may be a number of other areas in which you can compare your existing caravan insurance cover against other market options.

Taking that sort of checkpoint is important though. Your caravan probably constitutes a substantial component of your financial asset base and you may want to ensure that it is protected to the maximum extent possible.

Your existing policy may have done a very good job of providing that protection to you in the past, however, can you be sure that it is still entirely fit for purpose?

Looking to compare caravan insurance may be the only way to be sure.
